Hey guys, im looking for a 2 piece bream rod, the choices are: 1. Shmano Raider 2 in 2-4 2. Shimano Jewel in 2-4 3. Pflueger Trion in 2-4
They are all similar price range, i can get the shimano jewle for around $135 same as the Raider 2, and The trion. Which one would you guys recommend, and what are the differences in the commponent of these rods, eg blank, guides, seat, and grips? Are cork grips better?
Im getting into all this and it is so addictive.
Thanks for the help guys
PS i caught my pb bream last weeks 37cm to the fork on a powerbait power grub..yay will post pcitures up soon.

Congrats on the Pb bream mate, well done and Im looking forward to the pictures.
I own both a raider and a Trion, and they are both good value for money rods, I prefer the Trion, as i think its a bit better looking then the raider, a nicer action and has sexy split grips! I havent heard much about the jewel, but I think you will do well which ever way you go.

| personally i find cork grips SH*T now that i use EVA Composite grips, i also find the trions annoying with the split grip, far to long for my liking. If your after a mint little rod you cant go past raiders for value for money, their an excellent rod for breaming! The jewel is more of an outside plastic fishing rod and so forth, but i imagine it could be used for a bream stick, but the raider would suit breaming better. |

I think he means its more suited for offshore fishing - Ie in the ocean. Not sure how he came to the conclusion (if he did) seeings its rated under 4kg.
The trions come with 2 different grip set ups - normal and split, which one are you refering to.
take peoples oppinions with a grain of salt too, none of us are experts. Go to your local tackle shop and see which ones feel right to you. |

| The Jewel's and Raider II's are essentially the same rod with a different grip. I would take the Jewel over the Raider II. |

| take a reel & fit them all up, go to carpark & test them all, if the tackle shop won't let you don't deal with them ! |

It's what feels good to you and suits the need that you want to use it for, everyone has a different feel and what feels good to me won't necessarily feel good to you. As Beats said, take your reel to the shop and try them all before you buy.
For what it's worth, if I were to choose one of the rodds mentioned, I would go with the Pflueger Trion, but that's just my opinion. |
Cheers

I have a few rods from years gone by with cork and eva's and its down to what you like.
The cork on the HLZ's is awesome and is so much better to fish with then any other cork rod I have used for bream. Then again most people would not fish with them because they don't really know what a HLZ is or how it was made or who actually made it. Was it mass produced or custom made by the best anglers in Japan. I wonder. I have a custom offshore stick with top grade cork and its so good to fish with.
Problem is most people only like what is in fashion and not what suits your budget nor your taste in what you actually like. Its not what other actually like that is important, it is what you like. Don't be a sheep.
Cheers

| Cork or EVA, who cares? As long as it feels good. Either way, it's the blank that's the most important bit. That's the main focus. |
